ethOS: Ethereum should own the whole stack
2025-11-20 , World's Fair Stage

The talk will be divided in two sections.

The first part will give a clear overview of the ethOS and dGEN1 projects, what we’re building, how it all started, and where things are today.

In this section we will cover:
- Why we think an OS for Ethereum is a necessity, and why apps are not enough
- How we added Ethereum support to android and what this allows us to do
- How Apple and Google are making dapps developer's life difficult and why we can't rely on permissioned systems.
- Enshrining other protocols that enable freedom and decentralization on the dGEN1

The second part will dive into the current state of open source software and hardware in the Android ecosystem. We’ll talk about the real challenges we’ve run into while trying to build fully open and auditable systems, and how we and other projects are working to solve them.

In this section we will cover:
- Difference between Android and AOSP (Android open source project)
- The structure of Android (quickly) and why most of it is actually closed source
- Why we can't currently have a fully open source software and hardware
- Current state of the art in open source software and hardware
- What is the future going to look like
