Building the First Blockchain-Native Database
2025-11-19 , World's Fair Stage

After years of building decentralized data infrastructure for web3, we realized most tools, including our own, still rely on databases that aren’t blockchain-native. They treat chain data as static, losing essential properties like reorg awareness, streaming context, and verifiability.
In this talk, Sebastian Lorenz unveils Amp, the first blockchain-native database built from first principles on Rust, Apache Arrow, DataFusion, and SQL. Amp unifies streaming and batch processing, delivers sub-second chain-head latency, and plugs directly into the modern data ecosystem through open standards.
Sebastian will explain what makes Amp blockchain-native, how it integrates with The Graph Network, and why declarative SQL radically simplifies on-chain data extraction. Expect a technically grounded, builder-oriented session showing how Amp brings high-performance, composable, verifiable blockchain data from your laptop to the cloud.

Sebastian Lorenz is the Chief Technology Officer(CTO) of Edge & Node and a core developer and architect of The Graph’s decentralized data layer. Before joining full-time, he co-founded Avantgarde Finance, where he gained deep expertise in web3 infrastructure and decentralized finance.

As a member of The Graph Council, Sebastian helps guide the protocol’s technical strategy and evolution. As CTO, he focuses on advancing The Graph’s data architecture and empowering developers across the ecosystem.
